Ingredient Database:

Simple Definition: An amino acid that is required by cats (and likely ferrets).

Our Comments:

Taurine can be found in meats, but it is typically added as a separate ingredient in cat and ferret food. Cat food is required by the AAFCO to be at least 0.1% taurine.
To the best of my knowledge, no one knows whether ferrets require taurine or can synthesize it on their own. Since their nutrition is so similar to cats, we just err on the side of caution and add it to their food. Dog food typically does NOT have any added taurine.
